Law is based on concrete information and cannot be fabricated thus it is crucial to do your research ahead of time to truly have a solid understanding of the case. The work of a lawyer is extremely rigorous, demanding and you must be able to show that you have the intelligence and ability to absorb, dissect and analyze complex material very quickly.
Interpersonal Skills & Communication
Any lawyer must be able to communicate effectively with their client. Your ability to relate and interact with others in retrieving information and building relationship is integral in establishing your role as a lawyer. You need to establish trust with your clients and that cannot be done if you lack interpersonal skills. Clients needs to be able to establish a professional relationship in that they trust both your expertise and your personality. The most successful lawyers tend to be personable and able to work effectively with people by cultivating, building, developing and maintaining relationships with clients and colleagues.
Being able to communicate clearly and effectively on paper or face-to-face or over the telephone is one of the most important characteristics of being a good lawyer. Fundamentally, the most important role of the lawyer is the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with their client and their opposition in reaching an agreement.
