Summer Internship
During the summer of 2012, I had the amazing opportunity of working at Trang Nguyen & Associates as a junior associate. As an undergraduate, this opportunity was one of a lifetime and i was so thankful for landing the position. Trang Nguyen & Associates is a medium sized law firm located in North York region of Toronto. We specialized in civil, corporate and real estate litigations. During my 3 months there as an intern, i learned the duties and pressures of working at a firm and the daily obstacles of dealing with clients and cases. I was fortunate enough to have an Junior partner who provided me with all the necessary resources, training and mentorship every step of the way. He also took out time to take me to court to witness first hand how a legal litigation is handled in court. During the 3 months i worked at the firm, I learned more about law than i had my entire academic life. Although i had to face numerous difficulties along the way, it was the first time i've experience any sort of real life work situation where i had to take responsibilities for my every action. I had the experience of witnesses how one simple mistake can escalate into something as big losing the case. Although the tasks i was given were very simple and minuscule compared all the other associates in the office, i still saw the chain effect of how important every single task is. I think throughout the whole experience, the most important lesson i learned was about myself. I realized that my perspective of law was entirely different from what law really is and the tasks associated as a lawyer. I used to believe that law is proving justice in society. However working at the law firm really opened my eyes up to the many faces of justice. There are so many different perspective of justice and its important to understand that when dealing with cases and handling clients. I think my experience at the law firm really guided me in the appropriate direction and what kind of lawyer i see myself as in the future.
